Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken

  • pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts – Provides tender, lean protein and makes the dish hearty and satisfying.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning – Adds classic Italian herb flavor.
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder – Gives the chicken extra savory flavor.
  • ½ teaspoon paprika – Adds mild seasoning and helps the chicken develop a beautiful golden color.
  • ½ teaspoon salt – Enhances the overall flavor.
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper – Adds gentle peppery seasoning.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil – Helps brown the chicken and adds subtle richness.

For the Pasta

  • 12 ounces penne, fettuccine, or linguine – Choose your favorite pasta shape to carry the creamy sauce.
  • Salt, for the pasta water – Seasons the pasta from the inside as it cooks.

For the Creamy Parmesan Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter – Creates a rich base for the sauce.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced – Adds aromatic, savory flavor.
  • 1 cup heavy cream – Gives the sauce its rich and creamy texture.
  • ½ cup chicken broth – Adds flavor while helping create a smooth sauce consistency.
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese – Provides nutty, salty flavor and helps thicken the sauce.
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning – Enhances the herb flavor.
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional – Adds a gentle kick.
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper – Balances the creamy sauce.
  • Salt, to taste – Adjust after adding the Parmesan because Parmesan is naturally salty.
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley – Adds freshness and a bright finishing touch.

Optional Garnishes

  • Extra grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley
  • Freshly cracked black pepper
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Fresh basil

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken breasts with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet and cook the chicken for 5–7 minutes per side, or until cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  3. Transfer the chicken to a plate and let it rest before slicing.
  4. Cook the pasta in salted boiling water until al dente. Reserve ½ cup pasta water, then drain.
  5. Melt butter in the same skillet over medium heat.
  6. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30–60 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Pour in heavy cream and chicken broth, scraping the browned bits from the skillet.
  8. Add Italian seasoning, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes.
  9. Simmer gently for 2–3 minutes.
  10. Reduce the heat to low and gradually stir in freshly grated Parmesan until smooth and creamy.
  11. Add reserved pasta water a little at a time if the sauce needs thinning.
  12. Add the cooked pasta and toss until thoroughly coated in the creamy Parmesan sauce.
  13. Slice the rested chicken and arrange it over the pasta or toss it into the skillet.
  14. Garnish with fresh parsley, extra Parmesan, and freshly cracked black pepper.
  15. Serve immediately while hot and creamy.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the smoothest and creamiest sauce.
  • Reserve pasta water to easily adjust the sauce consistency.
